Increased scrutiny and reporting on education agents

Minister for Education Dan Tehan has today announced new measures to improve transparency about the operation of education agents through the publication of education agent data.

There were 693,750 full-fee paying international students in Australia last year with 75% of international students of these having used an education agent to assist them. International students were worth $35 billion to the Australian economy and support 240,000 jobs last year.

These new measure flow from the recommendations of the Joint Standing Committee on Migration's Report of the inquiry into efficacy of current regulation of Australian migration and education agents:

The International Education Agents Overview Report states that ... The Government is working towards full public release of education agent data. Full public release of student outcomes for enrollment and visa outcomes of students recruited by agents will facilitate improved decision-making by providers, agents and students and incentivise providers and agents to work towards better student outcomes.
